    It depends on which colleges you’re comparing, but generally, yes. COM is harder to get into than CAS, for instance (because COM is specialized and CAS has many majors). One of the most important things when applying to COM is that your essay be impeccable — original, interesting and well-written. Strong writing skills can make up for shortfalls elsewhere (such as test scores).

    BU in general wants to see your are well-rounded, so extra-curriculars are important no matter what college you’re applying to. For COM, certainly, it is a good idea to have ECs that relate to the major you want to go into. Newspaper or student newscast for jorunalism, AV club or Drama club for Film/TV, similar ones for Mass Comm.
