Yes. Very much so.
I do not think colleges consider racial status as part of admission, because deciding whether or not you are admitted due to your race/nationality is illegal.
Colleges/Universities typically ask what ethnicity their candidates are to get an idea of the makeup of their campus. Usually they post different stats such as sex, race, country origin, etc as part of an appeal to those considering going out of state or coming from another country. It’s more of a data collecting process than decision factor.
it better matter. too many non-merited whites make it cause they got money.
Colleges seem to be exempt from laws regarding discrimination.
I watched a report on TV that showed one collage would give more “points” toward a minority student then a student with perfect SATs.
Being a minority also makes you eligible for race based scholarships. Things i do not see the legality of what so ever. I have no problem with scholarships because of a bad financial situation, but the fact that someone gets one because they have a darker skin then me bothers me.
My understanding is that most colleges use a points system and you might have a very slight advantage by being a member of a minority group. Other things that add points to your application would be your academic record (including SAT and/or ACT), your personal statement (essay), and extracurriculars. Keep in mind that colleges tend to look better and get more money if they have more diversity, but if you’ve worked hard and have decent stats, you should be able to get in no matter who your ancestors were.
*Edit: The technical term you are looking for is affirmative action*
well, yea they want a biracial college
Yes, the college I go to is 5% black accepted as freshman or less every year. That’s definitely not by chance.
