how many financial aid programs can i apply for?

I live in oklahoma city and i am about to go to the university of oklahoma in the fall. My family is real poor and i have been filling out a lot of scholarships. I dont have OHLAP (which pays for tuition). I have been thinking of applying for loans and financial aid programs that are sponsored by the government. You just need to fill out the FAFSA online (www.fafsa.ed.gov). It is the first step in applying for pell and loans. You may want to chekc w/ UA and see what kind of scholarships or additional aid they know about. Oh— you will need your parents income tax return and yours to fill it out. For the 08-09 year, use the 07 ITR and for the 2009-2010 year, use the 2008 ITR.

Are there any financial aid programs that will cover a 3 day vocational training and certification class?
Question by Tom n Beth: Are there any financial aid programs that will cover a 3 day vocational training and certification class?
I want to enroll in a cel tower climbing school to get certified to climb, which is required by OSHA, but the class is $ 850, which I don’t have. Money is VERY tight, so I was wondering if anybody knows of any financial aid/grant programs that would cover something like this. Thanks.

Your employer should send you to the class. If you do not have an employer, and are trying to expand your skills cell tower climbing is a little odd. But anyway, falls from height is an OSHA focus area. You can check here on the OSHA website: http://www.osha.gov/dte/sharwood/2009_grant_recipients.html
That is the Susan G. Harwood grant recipients for 2009, there may be listings for 2008 that address tower climbing.
Other options: You can approach the local ironworkers union or electric co-op (company) as they may have an equal training, ask the training provider if they have any grants available for the training (there were several grants in the American Recovery Act)or if you can pay with a payment plan. (most will not do this due to being burned in the past) Or you can offer to help instruct or be a demonstrator in some of their other programs.
To be clear I would hope that your employer would train you as they would identify the specific equipment you are going to utilize and a little more detail on what your job function is going to be.
**Edit** The only problem with the other advice about FASFA and student aid is if the facility is not certified by DoEd then they can not get Fin Aid. Good Luck.

Day 138: Gala
Day 138: Gala

Tonight was the annual Renaissance School Gala. One might think that because my time at the Getty school is ended, fancy dress parties are behind me. Not so! This was the big auction and dinner night for the parents and teachers that raises money for the school (this year for the Elementary children’s next international trip – they have one yearly – and for the newly-minted financial aid program).
There were lots of neat things donated for a silent auction, but the live auction was mostly art, lovingly handcrafted by the various preschool and elementary classes, and bid on ruthlessly by the parents whose children had a hand in creating it. I’ll just say that the owner of the 0 feather and paper collage/shadowbox (Auctioneer: "And this is a *lovely* bird… um, if it is a bird,") from a 3-6 year class is a lucky dad indeed.
(Of course, it was actually all an excuse to give money to a most worthy cause of the school, and all in good fun at that. Still. Hysterical.)
